Suspected drone alert in Vilnius County, Lithuania; object not found

Unidentified radar contact; foreign UAV incursion unconfirmed

On the morning of 3 October 2026 an unidentified radar contact led Lithuania to issue a yellow air alert for Vilnius County at 09:48 local time and to close Vilnius Airport’s controlled airspace temporarily. The all-clear followed at 10:34. The object was first reported as entering from Belarus; officials later described a track toward Vilnius and Ukmergė that vanished before reaching Vilnius.

It has not been established that the object was a drone. Officials said the unusually slow track could represent birds or a radar anomaly, and a foreign drone incursion remains unconfirmed. An approach from Belarus does not establish Belarusian or Russian responsibility, and no operator or nationality has been identified.

NATO fighters did not locate the object, and a Lithuanian Air Force helicopter found nothing suspicious; the search ended around 13:00. No wreckage, casualties or damage were confirmed, and reports of a possible fire or explosion were not substantiated.
