Lithuanian border guards seize cigarette smuggling drone at Daugidonys
· Daugidonys
Officially reported cross-border smuggling-drone incident
Just after midnight on 6 September 2026, during the night of 5–6 September, Lithuanian border guards (VSAT) intercepted a homemade cargo drone (UAV) at Daugidonys in the Šalčininkai district, on Lithuania's border. The drone was carrying 1,000 packs of cigarettes. VSAT reported the operation on 7 September.
According to VSAT, the drone was flown by smugglers operating across the border from Belarus. The operators' nationality and any state sponsorship have not been established. This was a criminal cargo flight, not a military strike, and the official account is a border-enforcement one, not evidence of a foreign-state attack.
The guards stopped the drone electronically, forcing it to descend; this is not classified as a shoot-down or a confirmed crash. The drone and its cargo were seized, and no casualties or damage to others were reported. VSAT described it as the year's 55th such case. It is separate from an earlier incident recorded at Daugidonys.
