· Ūta–Versekėlė
Officially reported cross-border smuggling-drone incident
Late on the evening of 13 September 2026, Lithuanian border guards detected an inbound cargo drone near Ūta, in the Šalčininkai district on the border with Belarus. Counter-drone action disrupted it; the drone turned back toward the border and crashed in a meadow roughly 500 metres inside Lithuania, near Versekėlė. It was carrying 200 packs of Minsk Superslims cigarettes and a GPS device.
According to the border guard service VSAT, which reported the case on 14 September, the drone was flown by smugglers operating from or across the Belarus border. The operators’ nationality and any state sponsorship have not been established. It was a criminal cargo flight, not a military attack.
Border guards recovered the broken homemade drone within about an hour and opened administrative proceedings. No casualties or damage to third parties were reported.
