Officially reported cross-border smuggling-drone incident
On the night of 21–22 September 2026 Lithuanian border guards detected an inbound cargo drone at Liškūniškės, in the Šalčininkai district near the Belarus border. It descended after counter-drone action, and on the morning of 22 September guards found the damaged, scorched drone about 800 metres from the border near Antaniškės. VSAT reported the case on 23 September.
According to the border guard service VSAT, the drone was flown by smugglers operating from or across the Belarus border. The operators’ nationality and any state sponsorship have not been established. It was a criminal cargo flight, not a military strike.
The drone was damaged by its impact and by fire, but its cargo of 1,000 packs of Minsk Superslims cigarettes survived. The drone and cigarettes were seized and administrative proceedings opened; VSAT counted it as the 58th such case of the year. No third-party casualties were reported.
