On 19 May 2026 an air alert was issued in eastern Latvia. Civil warnings and shelter measures followed, along with a NATO response. Train services and exams were disrupted, and some shops reportedly closed. The exact locations affected have not been established.
The alert came on the same day that a drone reported as Ukrainian was downed over Estonia, and it may have been part of the same wave. The origin of whatever triggered the alert, and its relationship to the Estonian drone, remain unresolved. Open reporting did not establish whether a separate object entered Latvia, and no distinct drone has been identified.
