Drone shot down over Estonia’s Põltsamaa area identified as Ukrainian
· Põltsamaa area
Reported foreign
On 19 May 2026 a drone entered Estonian airspace and was shot down over the Kablaküla and Põltsamaa area of Estonia. A NATO fighter tracked the incoming drone, and a Romanian F-16 operating under NATO command shot it down. The debris was investigated.
Estonia said the drone was Ukrainian, and Kyiv apologized. The drone was reported to have been intended for a target in Russia. Ukraine said Russian electronic warfare had diverted it; that explanation is Ukraine’s own account.
No civilian harm was reported. An air alert in eastern Latvia the same day may have been part of the same wave, but it has not been established that a second drone was involved.
