Drone of unknown origin falls into Lake Drīdzis in Latvia and explodes

On the morning of 23 May 2026 local residents reported a drone falling into Lake Drīdzis, in Kombuļi parish, Krāslava municipality, Latvia. The report came at around 08:00 local time, which is not necessarily the exact time of the crash. An explosion was observed; the type of charge is unknown.

The drone's nationality and operator are unknown. It was reported to have arrived from a direction near Belarus, but no attribution has been established. Sensors reportedly registered no breach beforehand, and the origin was under investigation.

No casualties were reported. The State Police, rescuers with a boat and the armed forces searched the lake, and possible debris was located.
