Drone that crashed on Lake Lavysas identified as Ukrainian by Lithuania

Reported foreign

On 23 March 2026 a military drone came down on the ice-covered Lake Lavysas in the Varėna district of Lithuania, roughly 20 km from the border with Belarus. An explosion was reported, and the wreckage was found on the frozen lake.

On 24 March the Lithuanian government identified the drone as Ukrainian. It was reported to have been intended for an attack on oil-export facilities at Primorsk before it went astray. An explanation involving electronic warfare remains an assessment rather than an established finding. The drone carried a military payload, but the exact charge was not specified.

No casualties were reported. The site was secured and the wreckage was examined.
