Smuggling drone crashes near Krupaviesai, Lithuania, after interception
· Krupaviesai
Officially reported cross-border smuggling-drone incident
Before dawn on 7 May 2026 Lithuanian border guards used counter-drone measures against a loaded cargo drone near Krupaviesai in the Šalčininkai district. The intervention brought the drone down into a field, and it was broken. It was carrying 850 packs of Minsk Capital QS cigarettes.
The drone was reported to have approached from Belarus, and the State Border Guard Service (VSAT) attributed the flight to smugglers operating across the Belarus border. The operators’ nationality and any state sponsorship have not been established. The flight was a criminal cargo operation, not a military strike, and is not evidence of an attack by a foreign state.
No casualties or third-party damage were reported. The broken drone and its cargo were seized. VSAT, which published the case on 8 May, described it as the year’s 17th such interception.
