UAV debris of unknown origin destroyed at sea off Sinemorets, Bulgaria
· Off Sinemorets · UAV debris disposal
Official UAV-debris discovery and controlled disposal; foreign origin unresolved
Around midday on 9 October 2026 floating parts of an aerial drone were spotted in the Black Sea, reportedly 15 nautical miles east of Sinemorets, off Bulgaria. The Bulgarian Navy sent the minehunter Struma to examine them. The date is that of the discovery; when the drone originally came down is not known.
The fragments have not been identified beyond being from a UAV, and the model and number of aircraft are unknown. Their origin, operator and nationality have not been established, and no Russian or Ukrainian attribution has been confirmed. There is no evidence linking them to the 6 October drone attack on the merchant ships ALFA WATAN and ABLE.
Explosive material was suspected but not confirmed. Divers from the auxiliary ship Kapitan I rang Dimitar Dobrev recommended destroying the debris in place, and the Navy commander authorised a controlled detonation. No casualties or vessel damage were reported.
