Unidentified aerial target enters Romania near Ceatalchioi, Tulcea
· Ceatalchioi → Somova
Confirmed cross-border airspace incursion; aerial target unidentified
On the evening of 27 September 2026 Romania’s defence ministry reported that an unidentified aerial target had entered Romanian airspace near Ceatalchioi, in Tulcea County. Radar first tracked it over Ukraine north of Chilia Veche; it then followed the border and disappeared from radar about 10 minutes later near Somova. The exact entry time was not given.
Radar confirmed the cross-border entry, but the object’s operator and nationality are unresolved. It was described as a probable drone, but that has not been confirmed, and its type is unknown. Loss of radar contact does not establish a crash, and no shoot-down, explosion or wreckage recovery has been reported.
Two Romanian F-16s took off from Borcea. An RO-Alert warning was issued at 20:35 and the air alert ended at 22:05. A specialist search was announced for the morning of 28 September; its outcome has not been established. The incursion came the evening after a separate aerial target was tracked between Chilia Veche and Pardina.
